AcadeCoders 2016 Programme

MinecraftEDU: Turtle Code

June 27th – June 30th, 2016

Let your imagination run wild building, creating and imagining new worlds and joining in adventures with friends. The AcadeCoders program prides itself on using MinecraftEdu; the most prominent educational based Minecraft software. MinecraftEdu encourages millions of players to create, explore, and discover. The AcadeCoders brings that passion to the classroom to provide a week full of Minecraft that is just as engaging as the core game, with the added tools for easier collaboration.

 

Python Power

July 4th–8th, 2016

Python camp will be a good introduction to higher level programming for students interested in going further and building on existing skills. Campers will learn about scripting, syntax, and code readability. 

 

JavaScript

July 11th–15th, 2016

Learn how to program drawings, animations, and games using JavaScript.  For beginner, intermediate, and advanced coders, they will be introduced to JavaScript using Code Academy tutorials. Campers in the advanced session will be participating in more in-depth tutorials and challenges provided by our expert coding instructors.

 

HTML/CSS

July 18th–22nd, 2016

HTML is the language of the web and CSS provides the stylish designs on all your favourite websites.  Campers will learn about HTML and how to create a web page with text and images.  They will learn how to use the Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to change the color, font and layout of their web pages. Students will create an original web page which they will be able to share with their friends and family.

 

MinecraftEDU++

July 25th–29th, 2016

Let your imagination run wild building, creating and imagining new worlds and joining in adventures with friends. Campers will be learning to work collaboratively, gathering resources, crafting, and exploring a particular theme.

 

Building apps with JavaScript

August 2nd–5th, 2016

Have you ever wanted to create your own App? This is your chance….Campers learn basic skills, then team up with peers to solve problems and to develop real-world applicable apps. App development is about really making life better. During this session, campers learn basic skills, then team up with peers to solve problems and to develop real-world applicable apps. They will go beyond basic programming and look to innovate their own real world app from games to education the possibilities are endless! There will be two sessions running at the same location, led by two different instructors.

 

Robotics and Artificial Intelligence

August 8th–12th, 2016

Join in the fun during Robotics Week where campers will explore the concepts of Robotics and Artificial (AI) Intelligence through a series of activities, projects and workshops.  Working in teams, campers will learn the functionality of circuit boards and go through several challenges.  Campers will  build and race bristle bots made from toothbrush heads and vibrating motors. Rounding out the week, campers will build look at the use of AI in industries, and in the media, and develop their own chatbot using Scratch.

 

Ruby

August 15th–19th, 2016

Learn the rails of Ruby by learning this fun and object-oriented coding language! Ruby is a reflective and object-oriented programming language that is designed for frameworks of data storage, web services, and web pages like Twitter and Airbnb. The AcadeCoders will learn the essential aspects of Ruby such as control flow, loops & iterators, data structures, object-oriented programming.
