In their first unit, the Biology 11 students will be learning about the diversity of living things. During their first biodiversity lab, students refreshed their knowledge about the parts and function of a stereo microscope. They then practiced using the microscope to observe features of various biological organisms. We discussed the application and importance of microscope work when classifying and identifying organisms.
Throughout unit 1, the students will continue to hone their practical lab skills while building their understanding of how biological assessment, monitoring, and classification contribute to our knowledge and understanding of current world issues such as the loss of biodiversity and the effects of climate change on biological organisms and ecosystems.
