Biology 11 students practise using and constructing dichotomous keys. Dichotomous keys are one type of classification system used by Biologists to identify organisms. They consist of two-part branching statements and are based on the organisms’ morphological characteristics. Students learn about the advantages and limitations of this type of classification and explore alternatives, such as phylogenetic classification, a classification system based on evolutionary relationships.
