Rigour, Proficiency and Mastery

Rigour is the ability to ask the right questions. Proficiency is working until one demonstrates the expected learning in relation to the learning standards. Going in-depth, not coverage, is mastery of a subject.

21st Century Competencies

IBPYP Approaches to Learning © and our 21st CLC© Core Competencies prepare students how to learn and to self-teach for the challenges and opportunities that arise from changes in technologies, economies and societies.

“In the IB PYP classroom, student agency, action, and inquiry drive learning. Rigorous, concept-driven experiences encourage students to analyze, create, and engage deeply rather than simply memorize. They learn and refine their abilities to think critically, communicate effectively, adapt to any situation, problem solve and persevere through challenges. Higher-order thinking is at the core, ensuring students develop the skills and confidence to take meaningful action in their learning and beyond.
