Virtual Summer Camps

Our facilities may be closed, but the learning continues.

Learn more about our Virtual Summer Camps

Learning never stops at Académie de la Capitale, even if our facilities are closed to the public! As you all know, every summer, we open our doors to everyone by offering 2 different summer day camps: a S.T.E.A.M. camp for ages 4-9 and coding & robotics for children in grades 3 and up. This summer will be very different.

Although we have had to close our school facilities in mid-April of 2021, our students’ learning continues virtually through our telelearning initiatives. We will be using this approach again for our summer camps. As with our telelearning at school, camp learning will be in real-time. Counsellors and campers interact via Google Meet during the scheduled activity blocks, with guided hands-on and virtual activities. We  will engage campers in virtual jiu-jitsu once a week.

The virtual camps operate from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm, Monday to Friday (except on holidays), with snack/lunch and body breaks in between.

We are keeping a close eye on Ontario provincial announcements, as well as announcements from Ottawa Public Health. We will notify parents if and when we are able to hold in-person camps. A list will be managed for those who would like to be part of the in-person camps when they open.

2021 VIRTUAL ACADECAMP

AcadeCamp is an innovative, science-themed summer programme allowing campers ages 4-9 to experiment, ask questions, and get messy, tout en français. Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture/Arts and Math (STEAM) demand inquiry, connection, experimentation, and exploration.

Each week, the Friday Afternoon Project Showcase challenges AcadeCampers to find an innovative way to summarize and present what they have learned in STEAM.

The theme this year is “A Summer in the Art Gallery”.

For more information about the weekly themes, please download the registration form. It is recommended that parents read through AcadeCamp’s Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to learn more about how the camp will be delivered and the daily schedule.

2021 VIRTUAL ACADECODERS

Acadecoders is a coding and robotics camp focused on introducing campers to various technological disciplines while also ensuring they enjoy physical activities such as virtual jiu-jitsu classes. There will be a total of 8 weeks.

Our curriculum is developed by the AcadeCap STEAM team, and each day will involve learning new concepts, working on projects, and breaks for outdoor activity for a well-balanced camp experience.

For more information about the weekly themes, please download the registration form. It is recommended that parents read through AcadeCoder’s Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) to learn more about the device requirements needed to participate in activities, about how camp will be delivered, and the daily schedule.

SUMMER 2021 VIRTUAL SUMMER READING & WRITING PROGRAMME:

DAILY SMILE LITERACY TEACHING SESSIONS FOR CAMPERS (4 WEEKS)

The OG multisensory teaching sessions will be offered for 1 hour, 5 times a week (4 times a week during holiday weeks), and the participant must register for at least 4 weeks, or preferably all summer, in order for the programme to be effective. If a student has not been evaluated previously, pre- and post- testing will be provided. With the Orton Gillingham approach, a student learns using the visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and tactile senses simultaneously.  The OG multisensory teaching sessions will take place within the 9:00 am – 2:00 pm camp day.  The SMILE sessions either before or after virtual camp activities, and sessions will be conducted virtually. For more information regarding summer reading enrichment, kindly contact email us at info@acadecap.org.
