In a problem-based learning challenge, the Science 9 students used their knowledge of electrostatics and the scientific method to determine how the amount of charge on the rod and the mass of foil in an electroscope affect how far apart the pieces of foil will separate from each other.
In an inquiry-driven process, students explored the concepts of capacitance and electrostatic charge while developing an electrophorus, using it to transfer a charge to a storage device called a Leyden jar, and then using the stored charge to light a small neon lamp.
