For the Refugee Unit, the Grade 7-8 students were asked to pretend they were told that they had to leave their home in an hour, and that they had to pack their backpacks. This is what they came up with.
“This assignment really made me think about how sudden or how ill prepared I was to just leave home forever. After seeing my classmates ideas to bring, I wish I would have brought more like more food, outdoor gear or water instead of sparkling water. But trying to flee to the south from Canada is really tough without proper gear. I took for granted how safe we were in Canada until it happened. Wish me luck.” DM
