Building a geodesic dome / Construire un dôme géodésique

Putting cooperation and communication skills to the test, students were challenged to build a geodesic dome out of newspapers for iSTEAM. Employing their fine motor skills, they rolled 100, 3-sheeted newspaper tubes. Getting distracted by the articles is also part of the fun! They then measured, cut and decorated 35 long (71 cm) and 30 short (66 cm) with 25 backup tubes. Then the building began! Throughout the building process, they utilized the scientific method when obstacles were encountered. They discovered that the taping method was crucial as too much tape collapsed the tubes while not enough caused the tubes to fall off. They also reviewed their geometric knowledge as strength and stability properties of various shapes were questioned.
